2023 Squad Descriptions
The following document outlines the expectations of each squad in the new structure, including selection criteria, session expectations, and equipment and uniform requirements. National Squad
Head Coach: Andrew Goetz
Sessions per week: 9
About National Squad
Swimmers in National Squad are expected to follow the Ringwood Swimming Club Performance training pathways. Swimmers in this squad are expected to make a commitment to competitive swimming to achieve their highest potential and follow the training and competition schedule set out by the head coach.
National Squad trains 48 weeks out of the year.
National Squad Selection
- Registered Member of Ringwood Swimming Club
- Willingness to train alongside fellow swimmers of similar swimming ability regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Have achieved Age or Open National Qualifying Times
- 13 & over females, 14 & over males, exceptions may be made for talented, determined individuals, as determined by the head coach.
- Successfully passed a National Squad Entry Assessment conducted by the Head Coach to evaluate the swimmer’s training ability and commitment to competitive swimming.
- Regularly attend Ringwood Swimming Club aggregates and club held qualifying/encouragement meets. The family of the swimmer is to provide assistance/timekeeping duties at club held meets. Minimum two meets per annum (whole day).
Training Equipment required
Goggles, Club Swim Cap, drink bottle, kick board, fins, pull buoy, hand paddles, band, snorkel (front facing), Drag sponge and mesh bag for equipment.
Required Uniform
Swimmers are required to have full club uniform, which includes club polo, hoody, tracksuit pants, and or shorts and club deck coat.
National Target Squad

Sessions per week: 8 (Max 7 per week)
About National Target
Swimmers in National Target Squad are expected to follow the Ringwood Swimming Club Performance training pathways. Swimmers in this squad are expected to make a commitment to competitive swimming to achieve their highest potential and follow the training and competition schedule set out by the head coach.
National Target Squad trains 48 weeks out of the year.
National Target Squad Selection
- Registered Member of Ringwood Swimming Club.
- Willingness to train alongside fellow swimmers of similar swimming ability regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or disability.
- 12 years & over
- Aiming to gain National times, assessed to have the potential, and training acumen to do so.
- Successfully passed a National Target Squad Entry Assessment to evaluate the swimmer’s training ability and commitment to competitive swimming.
- Regularly attend Ringwood Swimming Club aggregates and club held qualifying/encouragement meets. The family of the swimmer is to provide assistance/timekeeping duties at club held meets. Minimum two meets per annum (whole day).

State Squad

Sessions per week: 6
About State Squad
Swimmers in State Squad are encouraged to attend 4-5 pool sessions per week, of up to 2 hours in duration. In addition to this, swimmers are expected to do Gym and dryland as per the schedule. Swimmers are expected to make a commitment to competitive swimming to achieve success at external competitions.
State Squad trains 48 weeks out of the year.
State Squad Selection
- Registered Member of Ringwood Swimming Club
- Willingness to train alongside fellow swimmers of similar swimming ability regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or disability.
- 14 years old & over
- Competing regularly at district and other club level swim meets
- Successfully passed a State Squad Entry Assessment to evaluate the swimmer’s training ability and interest in competitive swimming.
- Regularly attend Ringwood Swimming Club aggregates and club held qualifying/encouragement meets. The family of the swimmer is to provide assistance/timekeeping duties at club held meets. Minimum two meets per annum (whole day).
Equipment required
Goggles, Club Swim Cap, drink bottle, kick board, fins, pull buoy, hand paddles, band, snorkel (front facing), Drag sponge and mesh bag for equipment.

Junior State Performance Squad

About Junior State Performance Squad
Swimmers in Junior State Performance squad are expected to follow Ringwood Swimming club Performance training pathways. Swimmers in this squad are expected to make a commitment to competitive swimming to achieve their highest potential and follow the training and competition schedule set out by the head coach.
Junior State Performance Squad trains 48 weeks out of the year.
Junior State Performance Squad Selection
- Registered Member of Ringwood Swimming Club
- Willingness to train alongside fellow swimmers of similar swimming ability regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or disability.
- 10–14 year-olds.
- Aiming to gain State times, or to make state finals, assessed to have the potential, and training acumen to do so.
- Competing regularly at district and other club level swim meets
- Competing regularly at club level competitions
- Successfully passed a Junior State Performance Squad Entry Assessment to evaluate the swimmer’s training ability and commitment to competitive swimming.
- Regularly attend Ringwood Swimming Club aggregates and club held qualifying/encouragement meets. The family of the swimmer is to provide assistance/timekeeping duties at club held meets. Minimum two meets per annum (whole day).

About State Squad
Swimmers in this squad are expected to attend minimum of 4 pool training sessions per week of 1.5+ hours in duration combined with multiple Dryland/strength sessions. Swimmers are expected to compete and work to achieve success at district and state level competitions.
Junior State Squad trains 48 weeks out of the year.
Junior State Selection

About State Target
Swimmers in this squad are expected to attend minimum of 3-4 pool training sessions per week of 1.25-1.5+ hours in duration combined with multiple Dryland/strength sessions. Swimmers are expected to compete and work to achieve success at district and state level competitions.
State Target Squad trains 48 weeks out of the year.
State Target Selection
- Registered Member of Ringwood Swimming Club
- Willingness to train alongside fellow swimmers of similar swimming ability regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Competing regularly at club level competitions
- Successfully passed a State Target Squad Entry Assessment to evaluate the swimmer’s training ability and interest in competitive swimming.

About Platinum
Swimmers in these squads are expected to attend minimum of 3 pool training sessions per week of 1 – 1.25 hours in duration. Swimmers are expected to have a desire to compete and work to achieve success at club level competitions.
Platinum Squad trains 48 weeks out of the year.
Platinum Squad Selection
- Registered Member of Ringwood Swimming Club
- Willingness to train alongside fellow swimmers of similar swimming ability regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Competing regularly at club level competitions
- Successfully passed a Platinum Squad Entry Assessment to evaluate the swimmer’s training ability and interest in competitive swimming.
- Regularly attend Ringwood Swimming Club aggregates and club held encouragement meets. Family of swimmer to provide assistance/timekeeping duties at club held meets. Minimum one meet per annum (whole day.)

Gold Squad Ryan
Coach: Fallon Wise
Sessions per week: 3
About Gold
This squad is named after theRyan family who served the club over many years.
Swimmers in these squads are recommended to attend minimum of 3 pool training sessions per week of 1 – 1.25 hours in duration. Swimmers are expected to have a desire to compete and work to achieve success at club level competitions.
Squad trains 40 weeks out of the year during the school term.
Gold Squad Selection
- Registered Member of Ringwood Swimming Club
- Willingness to train alongside fellow swimmers of similar swimming ability regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Competing regularly at club level competitions
- Successfully passed a Platinum Squad Entry Assessment to evaluate the swimmer’s training ability and interest in competitive swimming.
- Regularly attend Ringwood Swimming Club aggregates and club held encouragement meets. Family of swimmer to provide assistance/timekeeping duties at club held meets. Minimum one meet per annum (whole day.)

Goggles, club swim cap, drink bottle, kick board, fins, pull buoy, band and mesh bag for equipment.
Silver Squad Hentschel
Coach: Fallon Wise
Sessions per week: 3 (MAX 2 per week)
About Silver Squad
This squad is named after the Hentschel family who served the club over many years.
Swimmers in this squad are recommended to attend 2 one-hour pool training session per week. Swimmers in these squads are expected to have good stamina and a desire to compete in competitions within the club and outside.
Silver squad trains 40 weeks out of the year during the school term.
Silver Squad Selection
- Registered Member of Ringwood Swimming Club
- Willingness to train alongside fellow swimmers of similar swimming ability regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Desire to take part in club activities and competitions outside the club
- Successfully passed a Silver Squad Entry Assessment to evaluate the swimmer’s training ability.
Equipment required
Goggles, club swim cap, drink bottle, kick board, fins, pull buoy, band and mesh bag for equipment.
Bronze Squad Fry
Coach: Isabella Walkenhorst
Sessions per week: 3 (MAX 2 per week)
About Bronze Squad
Named after the Fry Family who served and represented the club over 3 generations.
Swimmers in this squad are recommended to attend 2 one-hour pool training session per week. Swimmers in these squads are expected to have good stamina and a desire to compete in competitions within the club and outside.
Bronze squad trains 40 weeks a year during the school term.
Bronze Squad Selection
- Registered Member of Ringwood Swimming Club
- Willingness to train alongside fellow swimmers of similar swimming ability regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Desire to take part in club activities and competitions outside the club
- Successfully passed a Bronze Squad Entry Assessment to evaluate the swimmer’s training ability.
Equipment required
Goggles, club swim cap, drink bottle, kick board, fins, pull buoy, band and mesh bag for equipment.
Blue Squad Stewart
Coach: Fallon Wise, Isabella Walkenhorst
Sessions per week: 3 (MAX 2 per week)
About Blue Squad
Swimmers in this squad are recommended to attend 2 one-hour pool training session per week. Swimmers in these squads are expected to have good stamina and a desire to compete in competitions within the club and outside.
Blue squad trains 40 weeks a year during the school term.
Blue Squad Selection
- Registered Member of Ringwood Swimming Club
- Willingness to train alongside fellow swimmers of similar swimming ability regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Desire to take part in club activities and competitions outside the club
- Successfully passed a Blue Squad Entry Assessment to evaluate the swimmer’s training ability.
Equipment required
Goggles, club swim cap, drink bottle, kick board, fins, pull buoy, band and mesh bag for equipment.
NOVICE
Coach: Fallon Wise, Isabella Walkenhorst, Behrooz
Sessions per week: 5 avaiable,1-2 per week
About Novice
Swimmers in this squad are expected to attend a 1-hour pool training session per week. Swimmers in this squad are expected have a desire to compete and be willing to participate in introductory level competitions within the club.
Novice squad only operates during school term times.
Novice Selection
- Registered Member of Ringwood Swimming Club
- Willingness to train alongside fellow swimmers of similar swimming ability regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Correct Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle
- Foundation of butterfly stroke
- Desire to take part in club level competitions
- Successfully passed a Novice Squad Entry Assessment to evaluate the swimmer’s training ability
Equipment required
Goggles, club swim cap, drink bottle, kick board, fins, pull buoy, band and mesh bag for equipment.
ACTIVE
Coach: Various
Sessions per week: 4 available,1-2 per week recommended
About Active
This squad is for swimmers up to 18 years of age. Swimmers in Active are either unable or not willing to compete and train at the level required for the Competition or Performance pathways.
Active squad trains 40 weeks a year during school term times.
Active Selection
- Registered Member of Ringwood Swimming Club
- Willingness to train alongside fellow swimmers of similar swimming ability regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Has completed the Junior Pathway (Platinum) or equivalent
- Correct Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle
- Foundation of butterfly stroke
- Successfully passed an Active Squad Entry Assessment to evaluate the swimmer’s training ability
